Problem Pest Species we can help you with and how!

Pigeons

Flocks of pigeons typically congregate on buildings and this may result in a build-up of droppings. These create hazardous walking surfaces, particularly in wet weather. Droppings may also contaminate foodstuffs and other products. Nest materials and other debris collected by the birds may block rainwater drainage systems and can encourage infestations of insects and mites. There is also a human disease risk from direct contact with the birds.

Seagulls

For some years now, gulls have been leaving their colonies on islands and other remote places and moving into our towns. Herring gulls, the species most British people automatically connect with the word seagull, are enormous creatures. Each bird represents an impressive threat as it hurtles through the sky. The ear-splitting noise of them all shrieking at once, not to mention the mess their excrement makes of rooftops, pavements, cars and windows, or the damage they do to buildings is a daily nightmare for numerous people.

Rabbits

Rabbits have been a source of environmental problems when introduced into the wild by humans. As a result of their appetites and the rate at which they breed, wild rabbit depredation can be problematic for agriculture.  Also sports fields, golf courses, horse riding establishments and hotel grounds tend to be prime breeding areas for rabbits causing serious injury problems to humans and animals alike. We use shooting and humane trapping in conjunction with hawks to control rabbit populations.

Canada Geese

Canada Geese can cause problems in urban parks, golf courses, crops and landscaped gardens by grazing, trampling, fouling footpaths and damaging wildlife habitat.

Moles

Moles can become major pests as they destroy lawns, golf courses, sports pitches and parks with unsightly burrows and earth mounds

Foxes & Squirrels

We realise that foxes and squirrels have become pest species in business and residential areas, therefore, we have a choice of humane traps to deal with your problem.

PEST CONTROL SOLUTIONS:-

Humane Trapping

We have humane traps which which may be used on pigeons, moles, rabbits, foxes and squirrels

Bird Spiking

Bird spiking can be placed on ledges, windowsills and roofs to prevent pigeons/seagulls from fouling buildings, pavements and pedestrian areas such as sports stadiums, shopping centres, factories (inside and out), hospitals, schools and universities.

Bird Netting

Bird netting is used to deny access to pigeons/seagulls to large areas such as void spaces, balconies, roof areas etc. The netting is almost invisible, therefore, doesn’t alter the look of the building.

Bird of Prey

Flying a Hawk/Falcon as a natural deterrent. If you have a population of feral pigeons but are unable to use proofing methods such as netting and spiking we use a Harris Hawk as a method of bird control making the area undesirable to the pigeons and encouraging them to establish a new pattern of behaviour in another area. Unlike devices be it audio or mechanical pigeons never habituate to the presence of a hawk, used as a natural deterrent.  In some instances we would use a hawk in conjunction with netting and spiking.

Steve has been flying birds of prey for over 30 years, including on landfill sites for pest control. During any Risk Assessment we will ensure that the environment, should we be flying a bird of prey, is safe as our birds welfare is of the utmost importance to us as we have a duty of care to them. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that all sites will be suitable to fly a bird of prey, but we would then suggest alternative solutions.

Pigeon Culling

We also carry out pigeon culling under general licence: To kill or take certain species of wild birds to preserve public health or public safety. GL35 issued by DEFRA June 2019.

Pigeon Excrement Clearance

In some situations pigeons may gain entry to roof spaces, buildings, rooms etc. via broken roof tiles, windows or damaged areas, resulting in nesting/roosting and fouling. We remove and dispose of all pigeons, nesting material and fouling with a deep clean of the area(s).

Pest Control News

**IMPORTANT**

Death of child at Glasgow hospital linked to pigeon droppings infection:-

Pigeon droppings were a contributing factor to an infection which led to a child's death at Scotland's flagship hospital.  The child died at Glasgow's University Hospital and a post-mortem found that they had inhaled fungus which is primarily found in pigeon droppings. 23/01/2019

This is why we take our job extremely seriously and try to educate people to fact the that pigeon droppings are a huge health and safety issue which requires immediate action!

Educational VISITS

Additional Information

EDUCATIONAL VISITS

The history of falconry is believed to have originated in China dating back over 4,000 years and is still being practiced throughout the World today.

We offer educational visits where we give a talk on Falconry and its history with a selection of our falcons, hawks and owls, some of which are native birds of prey.

During the talk we will be demonstrating the different aspects and  attributes that falcons, hawks and owls use to survive in the wild, as well as the bond that exists between man and birds of prey.

During and/or at the end of the talk there will be a chance to ask questions and take photographs.

A small flying display is also offered depending on suitable conditions.

We cater for school visits as young as 5 years and upwards and adult  groups – for a morning, afternoon or evening with a difference.

These educational visits will be tailored to your specific needs/curriculum and we offer a friendly and personal service at competitive rates.

For more information on the above please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss your requirements.
